With Warner Brothers finally taking a leaf out of Marvel Studios and Disney’s book, it appears that we may be seeing the start of a DC cinematic superhero team ‘assembling.’ With the MAN OF STEEL sequel now confirmed to feature Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, all signs seem to be pointing to the Justice League appearing at some point in the future. Adding further to this, we’re getting constant rumours of the likes of Flash, Green Arrow, Green Lantern, and the Martian Manhunter appearing in a future WB big-screen release. Just how much of a role Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman will play in Zack Snyder’s upcoming Superman sequel is still unknown, but producer Wesley Coller has been speak to M Live to give an update of sorts on the Amazonian.

Discussing the character in general, Coller said, “My daughter’s favourite book is this little Wonder Woman flip book. It has the lasso, the invisible plane, the bracelets – every page has an image she’s just in awe with. And something that’s become a reality, being a dad with a new daughter, is that I have a special place in my heart for the idea of a strong, empowered female superhero being out there.”

When asked about a solo film for Wonder Woman, he coyly responded, “We’re super excited to have her in the film. It will be a ton of fun, but at the same time, we’ve got to stay focused on the film we’re working on now.”

Moving on to the topic of Ben Affleck as Batman, not to mention the negative response that has produced, Coller added, “Anything you do that’s culturally significant or any time you deal with an iconic character or story, you’re going to hear responses from every possible perspective. If anything, that gauges the relevance of a property or character, and it’s invigorating to know people care that much. It inspires you to make the coolest version of the movie that you can. Ben is the perfect fit for Zack’s vision for this story.”

The majority of us here at Starburst towers are firmly behind the ‘Batfleck’ cause, so we’d completely agree with Coller’s reasoning that Affleck is the perfect fit for where the story is going. Hopefully we’re vindicated in our thoughts.

Currently, plot details remain a little hazy for the MAN OF STEEL sequel, but it’s presumed that Affleck’s older, grizzled Batman will be on a mission to nullify the alien menace that has just destroyed half of Metropolis; Henry Cavill’s Superman. It’s expected that, after an initial tear-up, the duo will have to team up to take down a much greater threat. At present, rumours are floating around to say that Joaquin Phoenix is in talks to star as one of the film’s villains, said to be Lex Luthor, whilst Jason Momoa has also said to have had talks for a role, rumoured to be Doomsday or the Martian Manhunter. Phoenix as Luthor? Momoa as Doomsday? Yes, yes please. It’s also been already confirmed that Amy Adams will be returning as Lois Lane, Diane Lane will be back as Martha Kent, and Laurence Fishburne will be reprising his Perry White role.

The MAN OF STEEL sequel – can we just call it BATMAN VS SUPERMAN yet? – is currently scheduled for a 27th July, 2015 release.
