With Drew Goddard now seemingly set to write and direct Sony’s THE SINISTER SIX, producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach have been speaking to IGN about how the villain-centric spin-off may play out. It seems as if redemption is the name of the game.

Arad said, “Everybody’s looking for redemption. They’re unforgiven. As long as there’s that one thing in common, they’ll hate Spider-Man. They’ll hate him because he’s so different from then. But then, you know when you sit by yourself somewhere and you think about it, they all had a different life at one time and that’s what’s so beautiful about the Spider-Man universe.”

Tolmach then added, “There’s no such thing as just a villain. There are villains by virtue of choices that people make but they always begin as humans, as characters, as flawed people, as tragic people. You know great movies have been made about a bunch of bad guys who get together to do something.”

The big topic of whether the Wallcrawler will make an appearance was then addressed, with Tolmach teasing, “We’re definitely not going to say what we’re doing in terms of Spider-Man there.”

Whilst no release date has been set for THE SINISTER SIX, it’s been recently confirmed that it will follow THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3, which is released on 10th June, 2016, and will drop before THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 4. At present, THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 4 is set for a 4th May, 2018 release, although it’s been suggested that either THE SINISTER SIX or fellow spin-off VENOM may take that 4th May, 2018 release date.
