It was recently announced that THE GRUDGE was the latest film to get the reboot treatment. Yep, JU-ON/THE GRUDGE, a franchise that is full of remakes and sequels, is getting rebooted by Ghost House Pictures and Sam Raimi. Now, speaking to FEARnet, writer Jeff Buhler has been discussing what horror fans can expect from this latest rehashing.

Buhler said, “We’re not approaching this as a remake of the Sarah Michelle Gellar film or a remake of the JU-ON film. This is pushing the mythology forward while keeping the concepts and spirit of those movies, yet finding a new way to tell a story within that world, which is exciting.”

The writer then added that this latest movie will feature “new characters, new ghost, and a new mythology. We are still in the scripting process and very early in the process.”

We’re a tad confused as to why this is all happening, but these remakes/reboots/reimaginings are common place these days. So it’s not a remake of the Sarah Michelle Gellar-starring film, it’s not a sequel, it’s new characters and a new ghost? One has to ask oneself why not just drop the whole THE GRUDGE tag and create a new movie, a new franchise? Too original? Quite possibly.

Expect to be hearing more on this latest redo as and when it develops.
