If you know independent cinema chances are you know the name Jim Jarmusch. Jarmusch has been working in indie film for over twenty years and has never sold out, retaining a unique independent outlook through films such as DEAD MAN, GHOST DOG and BROKEN FLOWERS.

As we reported back in May last year, Jarmusch is set to breathe life into the increasingly stale vampire genre with the recently titled ONLY LOVERS LEFT ALIVE. Tilda Swinton, John Hurt and Mia Wasikowska have already been cast with Tom Hiddleston now joining up after Michael Fassbender was unavailable.

Jarmusch has apparently had the film in development for years and describes the project as a “crypto-vampire love story”. It concerns two vampires who have been in love for centuries.

The film will shoot in Germany later this year and probably start making the festival rounds at some point in 2013. As I have enjoyed Jarmusch’s previous films, I am very much looking forward to this; it could be just the breath of fresh air the vampire film needs after being ruined by a certainly sparkly emo kid and his weepy companion.
