With maniacal robot Ultron confirmed to be the villain of Joss Whedon’s AVENGERS ASSEMBLE sequel, the writer/director has been speaking to EW about what he’s got planned for the character.

Whedon said, “As a character I love Ultron because he’s so pissed off. I knew right away what I wanted to do with him. He’s always trying to destroy the Avengers, goddamn it. He’s got a bee in his bonnet. He’s not a happy guy, which means he’s an interesting guy. He’s got pain. And the way that manifests is not going to be standard robot stuff. So we’ll take away some of those powers because, at some point, everybody becomes magic, and I already have someone who’s a witch.”

The comic-book character of Ultron is pretty unstoppable. Having super strength, speed, stamina, durability, the ability to fly, mind control, and being a complete genius, Hank Pym’s creation is quite the foe. From Whedon’s comments, it seems as if he may be slightly humanising the character. Oh, and the witch he is referring to is the Scarlet Witch, recently rumoured to be lining up Elizabeth Olsen for the role.

At present, AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON is set for a 1st May, 2015.
