Whilst promoting PAIN AND GAIN, Michael Bay spoke to Moviefone about his plan to make some fundamental changes to his TRANSFORMERS franchise.

Discussing the fourth instalment of his robots-in-disguise franchise, Bay said, “You know, there are a couple of historians of Transformers. I would do my designs of the robots and they’re like, ‘What if you just add a little bit more ears to Optimus?’ But they’re really hands off. We’ve redesigned them in TRANSFORMERS 4, and there’s some really cool shit in it. I’m literally redesigning every character, top to bottom. There’s a reason why they’re redesigned, but it’s also to keep it new and fresh to me. I think the fans will appreciate some of this new stuff we have in the movie and some of the new characters.”

All I took from the above comments was the sound of a million childhoods being slowly butchered. That said, the garish nature of the characters’ designs is one of the biggest offences on a list of big offences associated with Bay’s series. At this point, any change is a good chance as far as this franchise goes. Maybe I’m just bitter or maybe I just don’t take kindly to childhood memories being bastardised.

TRANSFORMERS 4 will star Mark Wahlberg, Jack Reynor, Nicola Peltz and Stanley Tucci, and will be released on 27th June, 2014.
