There was a time when David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson were sick to the back teeth of THE X-FILES, and, indeed, each other. How times have changed! The pair are now firm friends (though not a couple as I had once been led to believe; damn you, HEAT magazine!) and bring up their enthusiasm for the franchise in every interview they give. There seems to be a genuine frustration that Fox (the company, not the character) haven’t given THE X-FILES a third movie, but it’s hard to argue with the studio after the turd Chris Carter delivered with 2008’s I WANT TO BELIEVE. Talking today with Collider about her new show THE FALL, Anderson once again expresses her desire to revisit the characters, if only to give the series the end it deserves…

“It feels like it needs one more chapter, in terms of the films. I think we all feel like having one more film out there will wrap it up nicely. It’s really just a matter of when. Now, in terms of my schedule, I don’t know when that when is. I’m not in any immediate rush to be calling Chris and tapping my foot, but if it’s meant to happen, it will happen. The fact that it’s having a second life with the children who were obsessed with it is really awesome. There’s a whole new generation out there that’s discovering it on Netflix, and that’s great.”

Good point a la Netflix. In fact if there’s a resurrection at all, the chances are more likely that we could see a new ‘event series’ on the streaming channel instead of a movie. With the company’s success stories of late with ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT and HEMLOCK GROVE et al, we’d wager they’d greenlight it tomorrow. Will Anderson be proved right in her certainty? I want to believe… yes.
