Why this isn’t the biggest news story of the year so far I’ll never know.

He may not have a place in the latest METAL GEAR SOLID game, but it seems that Solid Snake himself David Hayter is to set to continue his screenwriting career with THE SWORD.

Based on the Luna Brothers Image Comics series, THE SWORD tells the story of young paraplegic art student Dara Brighton, whose disability is cured when she discovers a magical sword which she then uses to slay the god-like being that killed her family.

Because obviously.

As we previously reported, Lakeshore Entertainment acquired the rights to the film last year and chairman Tom Rosenberg had this to say:

“David has a proven track record of bringing the multifaceted, beloved characters of graphic novels to mainstream audiences and we’re excited that he’ll be joining us for THE SWORD. Lakeshore has a history of delivering large-scale genre films at a budget that enables our international independent distributors to participate, and THE SWORD will provide that opportunity.”

Hayter’s previous credits include X-MEN, X2 and THE SCORPION KING on top of WATCHMEN, so he’s certainly got the chops for it. Not to mention the best voice this side of Brian Blessed.

If – if – there’s a snake anywhere in these comics and he doesn’t write a ‘Snaaaaaaaaake!’ line into the film, he can expect a class action lawsuit coming his way. Actually, forget that, do it regardless. In mid conversation without context. Wonderful.

So long as somebody screams dramatically into oblivion at some point it’ll get an A from me.
