There’s a bunch of ace looking new horror flicks heading our way over the next few months (particularly looking forward to PA4 and SINISTER) but up first comes the Sam Raimi produced THE POSSESSION (formerly THE DIBBUCK BOX). We’ll post the trailer again below in case you missed it the first time around, but before that, here’s the new poster (the original, seen above, was just too disturbing for UK punters it seems) and more interestingly, a piece of footage that we came across while trawling YouTube for clips from MAC AND ME (don’t ask), that got us thinking there may be more to the film’s claim of being “based on a True Story” than we’re comfortable with. THE POSSESSION that is, not MAC AND ME.

Anyway, here’s the poster…

…and here’s that clip. Brace yourselves…

Official Synopsis:

Based on a true story, THE POSSESSION is the terrifying story of how one family must unite in order to survive the wrath of an unspeakable evil.

Clyde (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Stephanie Brenek (Kyra Sedgwick) see little cause for alarm when their youngest daughter Em becomes oddly obsessed with an antique wooden box she purchased at a yard sale. But as Em’s behavior becomes increasingly erratic, the couple fears the presence of a malevolent force in their midst, only to discover that the box was built to contain a dibbuk, a dislocated spirit that inhabits and ultimately devours its human host.

Starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan (WATCHMEN) and Kyra Sedgwick (“The Closer”), THE POSSESSION is directed by Ole Bornedal (NIGHTWATCH), written by Juliet Snowden & Stiles White, and produced by horror master Sam Raimi along with Robert Tapert and J.R. Young. Lionsgate and Ghost House Pictures present.

THE POSSESSION takes over UK movie theatres on August 31st.
