The turn of the year saw Universal Pictures’ THE MUMMY lose director Len Wiseman and hire MAMA’s Andres Muschietti in his place. Now comes word from The Wrap that Muschietti has also abandoned ship and walked away due to creative differences. Apparently the director wanted a dark tone to the reboot, whilst Universal are targeting a child-friendly movie.

From a script by PROMETHEUS’ Jon Spaihts, this latest telling of the classic horror character currently has Sean Daniels, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci on board as producers. In terms of the plot, the story is said to be set in the modern day. Oh, and there’ll be bandages. Lots and lots of bandages. That’s all we know for now.

Which director will be next to attempt to tame THE MUMMY? Expect to hear more as it develops.
