Anticipating a major hit when the film opens, Warner Bros. has already begun work on penning a sequel to the upcoming animated film. 

According to TheWrap.com Jared Stern is set to take over writing duties on the planned sequel, his previous works including the likes of THE INTERNSHIP, MR POPPER’S PENGUINS and THE WATCH. He has also contributed additional story material towards Disney films like WRECK-IT RALPH and THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG.

While it is sad to hear original writers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller perhaps aren’t considering the sequel (especially after all the positive buzz surrounding the movie), it’s a great sign that THE LEGO MOVIE will be as brilliant as we all hoped it would be. Let’s pray they take up a producing role to make sure everything is indeed still awesome.

The LEGO Movie is released in the UK on the 14th February and in the US on the 7th.
