Just when you thought the vampire trend was on its way out, movie rights have been picked up for another potential series – Christopher Pike’s THE LAST VAMPIRE books.
The series of books tell the 5000-year life story of Sita, who believes she is the last surviving member of the vampire race. Having begun in 1994, Pike's series is still going, with omnibus editions under the new title THIRST having begun in 2009, getting great sales from the height of the TWILIGHT-fuelled vampire craze.
Since the TWILIGHT films finished, Hollywood has been searching for the next big franchise, though with little success – THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS, for example, has had its second instalment cancelled after the first tanked. Perhaps THE LAST VAMPIRE could be a contender? Whatever happens, the film is in its very early stages – going through the boring legal stuff – and it’ll be a while before we hear much to get too excited about.
