One of the highlights of Peter Jackson’s LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy and definitely one of the finest actors in the industry, Sir Ian McKellen, known as Magneto to some but known to most as Gandalf, has officially completed filming his scenes as the crafty old wizard in prequel trilogy THE HOBBIT. Jackson took to Twitter today to break the news, remarking, “Seconds ago we finished our last shot with Gandalf. The end of an incredible adventure that began in 1999. I’m feeling very sad right now.”

While this is indeed sad news, it’s also cause for celebration. McKellen’s performance as Gandalf was one that captivated and inspired millions, and one that will live on for generations to come.

But don’t fret. We’ll be seeing him again in this holiday season’s THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG, followed by next year’s THE HOBBIT: THERE AND BACK AGAIN.
