It seems as if most fans aren’t particularly looking forward to 20th Century Fox’s Josh Trank-helmed FANTASTIC FOUR reboot. If you weren’t keen on the idea already, chances are this latest news isn’t going to change your opinion.

When The Hollywood Reporter asked Fox bigwig Emma Watts if the movie will be similar in style to Trank’s found-footage effort CHRONICLE, the answer was, “It’s Josh, so it can’t not have that feel. That’s his talent, that’s what he does, and that’s what excites him about it. It is a really interesting young cast, and he is the magnet that’s brought them all together”

This adds further to what writer Simon Kinberg has previously said about the reboot, saying that it will be a cross between CHRONICLE and Sam Raimi’s SPIDER-MAN trilogy. At that time, Kinberg described the FF redo as, “It’s a much more grounded, gritty, realistic movie than that the last couple of movies.”

Why can’t superhero movies just be superhero movies these days? What’s wrong with having them over-the-top, unbelievable, fun and encouraging the audience to suspend disbelief? I guess after Christopher Nolan’s DARK KNIGHT trilogy and the fat cash that it took, the grounded and realistic route is deemed the best way to go by some of the studios. Marvel Studios and Disney seem to have a good mix right now, so you’d think that Fox would be looking to take a leaf out of the House of Mouse’s book.

To be released on 18th June, 2015, Trank’s THE FANTASTIC FOUR will feature Miles Teller as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Kate Mara as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm/The Thing, Toby Kebbell as Victor von Doom/Dr. Doom, Tim Blake Nelson as Harvey Elder/Moleman, and Reg E. Cathey as Dr. Franklin Storm.
