James Wan, the bastard who unleashed the SAW franchise unto the world and then made up for it with last year’s INSIDIOUS (yep, loved it, and I’m not ashamed to admit it) has announced his follow-up project. Obviously it’s another entry into his go-to genre, but we’re Starburst, so no complaints here…

THE CONJURING is based on a supposedly (read: not at all) true story of partners Roger and Carolyn Perron, who, back in the 70s, penned an account of their time living in a house regularly frequented by all manner of supernatural entities, some good, some downright nasty. It was called HOUSE OF DARKNESS, HOUSE OF LIGHT: THE *cough* TRUE STORY.

Highlighting the fact that more than one person enjoyed INSIDIOUS at least, is the news that that film’s star, the superb Patrick Wilson, has signed on to play Wan’s lead in this one too. He will be joined by Vera Farmiga, who last we saw being terrorised by her mysterious adopted daughter in the underrated genre flick ORPHAN. Here are pictures of their faces:

On writing duties for THE CONJURING (not digging that title, surely HOUSE OF DARKNESS, HOUSE OF LIGHT is better?) are Chad and Carey Hayes. Nope, we hadn’t heard of them either, but a quick check reveals they have all manner of similar fare already under their belt. Sadly most of them are duffers. WHITEOUT anyone? THE REAPING? HOUSE OF WAX? Actually, scratch that, WAX is a lot of fun. Despite Paris Hilton.

Expect THE CONJURING to start haunting our multiplexes sometime next year.

Looking forward to this? Anybody else supremely freaked out by INSIDIOUS last year? Share your thoughts with your fellow readers in the Comments section below or on Twitter @Starburst_Mag
