For those of you who are just about getting up to speed on all the recent Mary Jane-shaped goings on surrounding THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2, there now emerges even more details on why we won’t be seeing MJ in next year’s Spidey sequel.

If you’ve been living under a rock for the last week or so, or have not been frequenting Starburst as much as you should (really, why wouldn’t you?), then it’s been confirmed that Shailene Woodley’s scenes as Mary Jane Watson have already been cut from Marc Webb’s THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2. In fact, due to scheduling conflicts, the actress has now left the series completely. Why were the MJ scenes discarded? Well, it appears we are now getting the real reason behind the whole debacle. Hollywood Life is the source with the scoop, but be warned, severe SPOILERS lie ahead. Don’t say you weren’t warned…

*** SPOILERS ***

It has been long-rumoured that THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 would see Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy meet her demise – a rumour that has also been confirmed by the actress herself. Apparently, the logic to move Mary Jane’s appearance back to THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3 is in order to not make Peter Parker look like a Spider-Slut. If Peter Parker suffers the death of his girlfriend, his true love, only to then be seen making goo-goo eyes at a certain Mary Jane Watson, well, it doesn’t look particular good on our Wallcrawler. Plus, pulling MJ from the film will hopefully give Gwen’s death more meaning and impact on Peter’s life, especially in the audience’s eyes.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 is currently on course for a 1st May, 2014 release.
