As Alan Taylor’s TERMINATOR: GENESIS gets ever closer to production, The Hollywood Reporter has word that J.K. Simmons has joined the cast of Taylor’s film. Simmons is best known to most audiences for playing the ever-cranky J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi’s SPIDER-MAN trilogy, although he has appeared in a whole of movies over the years, such as THE LADYKILLERS, JUNO and DARK SKIES.

In terms of the character that Simmons will be playing, he’s being described as a “weary and alcoholic detective who has followed a bizarre case involving Sarah Connor and robots for more than three decades.” It’s also been said that the characters association with Sarah Connor goes back to 1984, which, as coincidence would have it, just so happens to be the year that James Cameron’s THE TERMINATOR was released.

Simmons joins a cast that already includes GAME OF THRONES’ Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor, ZERO DARK THIRTY’s Jason Clarke as John Connor and A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD’s Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese. It’s also been confirmed that Arnold Schwarzenegger will be returning in some capacity, with current rumours suggesting that he’ll be playing a human who the T-800 is based on.

TERMINATOR: GENESIS is currently set for a 1st July, 2015 release.
