Movie News: New TERMINATOR Film Will Be A Reboot; Trilogy Planned

It was recently confirmed by Arnold Schwarzenegger that a new TERMINATOR film was to start production early next year. Well, it now appears that the film will actually be a reboot of the series.

Skydance Productions, Annapurna Productions and Paramount Pictures have released a joint statement to confirm that the next TERMINATOR film will indeed be a reboot, and will be the start of a standalone trilogy. The first instalment of said trilogy is planned to hit screens on 26th June, 2015.

The rebooted TERMINATOR will be produced by Megan Ellison of Annapurna and David Ellison of Skydance. Dana Goldberg and Paul Schwake of Skydance are attached as executive producers. On script writing duties are Laeta Kalorgridis and Patrick Lussier. Kalorgridis is best known for her work on AVATAR and SHUTTER ISLAND, whilst Lussier penned DRIVE ANGRY.

This latest announcement throws Schwarzenegger’s involvement into doubt. Arnie had previously stated that he’ll be returning as the iconic T-800, but there’s no mention of him in this latest development. Will The Governator ‘be back’? Expect more on this as it develops.
