If appears that James T. Kirk is heading to the DC Cinematic Universe.

Variety is reporting that Chris Pine, known to genre fans for playing Kirk in the relaunched Star Trek franchise, is in talks to play Steve Trevor in Warner Brothers’ upcoming Wonder Woman.

Trevor is a long-standing love interest of the Amazon, and it was previously believed that Scott Eastwood’s unconfirmed role in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad was indeed that of Steve Trevor. Apparently not. Whilst Eastwood was offered the chance to read for the role of Trevor, he supposedly ended up taking a completely different (and still unknown) part in Suicide Squad.

The character of Steve Trevor first appeared way back in 1942’s All Star Comics #8, appearing as a US soldier who crash-landed on Paradise Island. As with so many comic book characters, he has been rejigged and rebooted many times over the decades.

To be directed by Patty Jenkins, the Gal Gadot-starring Wonder Woman is currently set for a June 23rd, 2017 release. Wonder Woman herself, of course, will make her DCCU debut in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, released March 25th, 2016, and she will also be a key part of Snyder’s two-part Justice League.

As ever, expect more on this as it develops.
