First the Turtles weren’t mutants, then they were aliens. Then there’s no bright yellow jumpsuit for April O’Neil (likely a wise call, in fairness), and now there’s even more controversy surrounding the Michael Bay-produced TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES reboot. William Fichtner, the film’s Shredder, has confirmed to Screen Rant that Shredhead will actually be getting a new identity.

The actor revealed, “I actually play a guy named Eric Sachs in the movie. It is not like anything that I remember about the Turtles before. I feel like this Michael Bay-produced movie is just gonna really be something else. I’m pretty excited.”

I’m glad somebody is…

Fichtner was then asked about whether the character will at least be keeping his Japanese origins, to which he replied, “I think it would be much more exciting to find out these things as they unfold.”

In the original comic books and animated series, Shredder’s real name was Oruki Saki, an old rival of the Turtles’ mentor, Splinter. Current rumours suggest that ‘Erich Sachs’ will actually be a former military officer that aims to take down the Turtles.

Joining Fichtner in the film are Pete Ploszek as Leonardo, Jeremy Howard as Donatello, Alan Ritchson as Raphael, Noel Fisher as Michelangelo, Danny Woodburn as Splinter, Megan Fox as April O’Neil and Will Arnett as Vernon Fenwick.

Directed by Jonathan Liebesman, TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES is currently set for a 6th June, 2014 release.
