Fans of GAME OF THRONES author George R. R. Martin will be pleased to hear that another of his beloved properties is heading to our screens, with Universal and SyFy Channel acquiring the rights to superhero anthology series WILD CARDS.

This will mark SyFy’s first foray into features, under their newly created SyFy Films banner.

WILD CARDS began in 1987, and saw several acclaimed sci-fi/fantasy author’s contribute to the 22 (and counting) volumes, all set in a shared alternate universe that sees a 1946 Earth ravaged by an alien virus that transforms the few survivors into two separate classes – Jokers (mutants) and Aces (super powered beings).

If the film, which Melinda Snodgrass (a WILD CARDS regular) has been tasked to write, does well at the box office, Martin believes that it could expand to sequels and TV in the future, giving them a perfect platform in which to fully explore the ever-expanding universe.

More updates as they come…
