It would be fair to say that the world needed a Stretch Armstrong movie about as much as Sylvester Stallone needs help in a pub fight. Nevertheless a film based on the popular Kenner (now under the Hasbro name) stretchy action figure was indeed planned and at one point had Twilight’s Taylor Lautner attached (let joy be unconfined). However the project never reached forward, with Relativity and Hasbro’s film, planned for an April 11th 2014 release, going nowhere and eventually being cancelled last month. Yet despite the film’s death, Relativity did state that “Stretch Armstrong is an incredible character who will make an amazing movie, and we know that Hasbro has some new ideas they are looking at.”

How until the elastic, blonde, baddie basher rises again, here is what you could have had. This storyboard sequence, rendered by Collin Grant (X2, The Matrix) and animated by Jim Rothwell (Iron Man, Spider-Man 2), was released today and is very surprising. Not least because it actually is rather good and highlights the possible routes they were attempting to go with the character’s backstory and the overall tone (a few violent moments included), as well as offering a none-too-subtle nod to the character’s toy roots. The idea sounded terrible on paper and likely could have been onscreen (acting, story, etc.) but this storyboard, while not reflective of what the entire product could have been, is a fun watch. Where originally we thought, “get stretched”, consider our minds a little bended by this one…
