Fan of Roald Dahl? Fan of Steven Spielberg? If so, you may just enjoy this news. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Spielberg is going to be directing a live-action version of Dahl’s classic THE BFG. Not to be confused with DOOM’s famous piece of weaponry, this BFG is the Big Friendly Giant.

It’s been revealed that the script for this adaptation has already been written by Melissa Mathison, who also wrote the E.T. script for Spielberg.  Despite being a “maybe” for a host of movies right now, Spielberg is apparently completely committed to THE BFG. At present, the plan is to begin shooting the movie next year with a 2016 release planned.

The iconic 1982 Roald Dahl story has been adapted into a movie previously, with the 1989 animated TV movie proving quite the favourite with Dahl fans and critics alike.

Expect more on this as it develops.
