It always struck us as a little odd that the proposed DOCTOR WHO movie announced recently was going to be outside of the current canon… “Russell T. Davies and then Steven Moffat have done their own transformations, which were fantastic, but we have to put that aside and start from scratch”, claimed director David Yates.

Why on Earth would the franchise need to be rebooted for new audiences when the very concept has a ‘reboot mechanism’ built into the narrative in the form of the Doctor’s regeneration?! Madness. 

Well, it seems Yates might have been a little out of the loop with what the BBC are shooting for (which in itself is quite troubling, shouldn’t he of all people know?) – with current showrunner Steven Moffat today tweeting a reassuring message to everybody who was concerned with the idea…

“To clarify: any Doctor Who movie would be made by the BBC team, star the current TV Doctor and certainly NOT be a Hollywood reboot.” 

Great news.

Now, it’s best to bear in mind that the movie is a long ways off yet (no script even exists after all), and so it’s highly unlikely that Matt Smith will still be starring. And you know what that means… speculation time! Who would you like to man the Tardis come movie time? Go!
