Whilst nowhere near as annoying as THE TERMINATOR getting this treatment, Roland Emmerich has confirmed that he’s planning to reboot STARGATE as a trilogy.

Speaking to DigitalSpy, the director said, “We went to MGM, who has the rights, and proposed to them to do a sequel, but as a reboot… and reboot it as a movie and then do three parts. Pretty soon we’ll have to look for a writer and start.”

The 1994 original was co-written and directed by Emmerich, taking nearly $200 million at the global box office. It starred Kurt Russell, James Spader, Jaye Davidson and Alexis Cruz, and spawned several TV spin-offs.

Expect to be hearing more on this as it develops. Before that, Emmerich has the small matter of INDEPENDENCE DAY 2 to worry about.
