JJ Abrams

In some news that even Stevie Wonder could see coming, J.J. Abrams has officially confirmed that he will not be returning to direct STAR TREK 3. Abrams has been behind the two recent films that have rebooted the film franchise, before deciding to sleep with the enemy, aka STAR WARS.

Speaking to IGN, Abrams said, “It is a little bittersweet. I’m going to be producing the next STAR TREK movie. Whomever it is that directs the film will be someone we all know is going to keep the cast and crew in good hands. I’m very excited to see what comes next.”

As well as being involved in a producing role, Abrams also confirmed that he will be hands-on with the creative process of the film. “It’s too early to talk about details,” he said, “but there have been a lot of really exciting ideas about what comes next.”

As well as Abrams working on plot details, he will be joined by Bryan Burk, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman on the writing side.

Expect to hear a lot more on STAR TREK 3 over the next few months.
