Well that’s a weight off! After several delays we’re happy to report that filming on JJ Abrams’ eagerly awaited sequel to his successful STAR TREK reboot is now scheduled to begin shooting on January 15 2012, with a release date tentatively aimed for summer 2013. At least that’s what the guys over at TrekMovie are saying, but who are we to argue with them!

Writers Robert Orci, Alex Kurtzman, and Damon Lindelof are now working on their 3rd draft of the screenplay, which by the sounds of things has shaped up quite nicely, the current revisions of which are merely for polishing purposes: “Rewriting is a good thing which normally makes the script better. We like to keep pushing the script, even if no one gives us notes” says Orci.

It’s also reported that Abrams might be revisiting a certain island to film scenes (“we have to go baaaack!”), with Hawaii being eyed as a possible substitute for a jungle planet.

No confirmation on the Benicio Del Toro villain rumour we reported on recently (read the story here) but we still maintain they’ll be missing a trick if they don’t cast the hirsute actor as a Tribble.

It’s officially time to start getting excited folks!
