For all those disappointed with IRON MAN 2 (and we count ourselves amongst you) the following words for Robert Downey Jnr should be of some comfort…

In a sit down pow-wow with ExtraTV while promoting next week’s release of GAME OF SHADOWS, the actor weighed in on another of his eagerly awaited sequels…

“Iron Man 3 is probably the best script I’ve read in five years, which is so funny. I mean, things have come so full circle that a genre superhero movie can actually be the most artistic bit of writing I read. The third Iron Man to me is an opportunity to go back to the kind of storytelling and character exploration that made the first one good.”

Which hopefully translates to Marvel Studios having the confidence to commit to an actual Iron Man story and not shoehorn in cameo appearances to advertise their other future franchises. And with THE AVENGERS long out of the way by then, there should be no excuses.

IRON MAN 3 will be written and directed by Shane Black, who originally kicked off the Downey Jnr. career comeback by casting the formerly troubled actor in his excellent directorial debut KISS KISS BANG BANG.

Look for the film to hit May 3rd 2013.
