Sony Pictures have only gone ahead and purchased a few web domain names which seem to threaten the future of existence of a SONIC THE HEDGEHOG movie. Don’t go dusting your Sega Dreamcast off yet to excitedly relive your youth before heading to the cinema, it’s not been reported, confirmed, announced, or even merely mentioned by Sony yet.

It was within the last week that the following domain names were purchased by Sony Pictures: sonicthehedgehog-movie.com, sonicthehedgehog-movie.net and sonicthehedgehogmovie.net. Something in these URLs give us a vague idea that they want to make Sonic the Hedgehog into a movie…

There is reason to believe that if a Sonic film were to be made, it would be a Sony Pictures Animation, created in the same tone as CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS or THE SMURFS. It’s already got its storyline set out if they stick with the game’s ‘save the world from Dr. Robotnik’ themes. Also, like Sony did with THE SMURFS, they can usher in a new fanbase for the blue hedgehog.

Although Sonic has appeared on the small screen, he’s never took the fast lane to the silver screen and this would be his big debut.
