Director D.J. Caruso started strong with the REAR WINDOW homage (or rip-off, the jury’s still out) DISTURBIA in ’07, but subsequently bored us with EAGLE EYE and I AM NUMBER FOUR.

Could INVERTIGO change all that? (And before you ask, no this isn’t another Hitchcock riff). Sony Pictures has today started talks with the director to helm their new high-concept sci-fi drama that sees the Earth’s gravity inverted when a downed NASA space craft hits New York City. Quite why the results of that would affect anything other than the people in the Starbucks it landed on is a mystery to us, but I’m sure they’ve got the mechanics of their MacGuffin all figured out.

Sounds interesting doesn’t it. We’re approaching with caution however, as the brains behind the spec script is non-other than Ehren Kruger (destroyer of franchises), who co-wrote with Bradley Cramp (no beef with him).

There’s no word as yet on casting, but we have a sneaky feeling Shia LaBeouf just might pop up somewhere.

More as this develops…
