Back in early 2011 when Warner Bros. once again started to seriously think about their JUSTICE LEAGUE movie, Zack Snyder steadfastly maintained his MAN OF STEEL wouldn’t have a thing to do with the team-up flick. Then THE AVENGERS happened, and times they have been a-changing.

With the WB pot-committed to ready JUSTICE LEAGUE for screens summer 2015, Snyder’s obviously had more than a few chats with the studio about getting a shared universe sorted sooner than later. It would, after all, be cinematic suicide to have a new Supes introduced in 2013, only to ask audiences to accept yet another version of the character in 2015. Cinemagoers are going to have a hard time enough accepting a non-Nolan ‘verse Batman after all. Proof that MAN OF STEEL will indeed be Warner’s launch of the onscreen DCU proper comes from a recent article in The New York Post, in which Snyder had this to say:

“I don’t know how ‘Justice League’ is going to be handled. Honestly, I don’t. But ‘The Man of Steel’ exists, and Superman is in it. I don’t know how you’d move forward without acknowledging that.” 

Asked to elaborate on his film being the first in the shared DCU movieverse, Snyder once again played coy…

“I can’t really say anything to that, because that’s a big spoiler. I will say, yeah, they trust me to keep them on course.”

And there you have it. He might have tried to skirt around the answer, but it’s pretty clear that yes, MAN OF STEEL will indeed lead right into JUSTICE LEAGUE. Now, what are the chances we’ll see a cameo or two from the super-group?

The next MAN OF STEEL trailer will premiere before THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY. The film itself is released June 14th 2013.
