With a sixth RESIDENT EVIL movie in the works, now comes word on the tentative title of the film. Collider reports that the follow-up to RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION is currently known as RESIDENT EVIL: THE FINAL CHAPTER.

It’s been known for a while that this new RESIDENT EVIL will be the last one that Paul W. S. Anderson directs, and this new title certainly suggests that. Of course, this could change down the line, as could the title of RE6, but plenty would say that the franchise has definitely ran its course.

In fairness to the franchise, it has been a very profitable one for Sony and Screen Gems. The last movie in the series, 2012’s RETRIBUTION, took $240 million globally from a budget of $65 million. Whilst these films are never going to break box office records, they still take a decent amount of profit.

In previous years, Anderson has spoken about how 2010’s RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE was the start of a new trilogy of RE films. After continuing with the 2012 RETRIBUTION, it seems that the director is set to bring the series to a close with this upcoming effort.

As for this sixth installment in the RESIDENT EVIL franchise, no plot details or a specific release date are known at this stage. Anderson is currently working on a first draft for the film, which will again see the director’s wife, Milla Jovovich, return as Alice. The film is expected to hit at some point in 2015.
