It was only the other day that we reported on writer/director Scott Derrickson’s involvement in a new supernatural Jerry Bruckheimer production BEWARE THE NIGHT, the news of which followed closely on from his new gig helming an adaptation of Stephen King’s THE BREATHING METHOD. And now today comes the announcement that he’s signed on to direct a big screen adaptation of the popular videogame franchise, DEUS EX! Phew. To paraphrase ZOOLANDER’s Mugatu… “that Scott Derrickson. He’s so hot right now.”

Derrickson will draft in his SINISTER co-writer C. Robert Cargill to work with him on the screenplay for CBS Films. The director had this to say about the project: “Deus Ex is a phenomenal cyberpunk game with soul and intelligence. By combining amazing action and tension with big, philosophical ideas, Deus Ex is smart, ballsy, and will make one hell of a movie. Cargill and I can’t wait to bring it to the big screen.”

Expect DEUS EX to aim for a 2014 release. While you wait, why not have a read of our recent chat with Mr. Derrickson HERE. Nice chap. But we’re still not going to forgive him for THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL remake.
