What with those recent rumours regarding his involvement in DC/Warner Bros’ Justice League movie and all the Guardians of the Galaxy talk, you can’t escape Joseph Gordon Levitt at the moment. Today’s JGL news isn’t just industry scuttlebutt however, as he’s officially joined the cast of Robert Rodriguez’s long-awaited Sin City sequel, A Dame To Kill For. The actor will play Johnny, a character new to Frank Miller’s mythos. “I love how the first movie uses VFX, not to make fake things look real, but to create a heightened world unburdened by the look and feel of reality,” said JGL in his official statement, “Plus, nobody makes a badass like Mr. Rodriguez.” Too true, sir. Unless he’s on one of his kid-friendly trips and comes out with dross like Shark Boy and Lava Girl.

Also joining the ensemble cast is Christopher Meloni. The actor has been around since the late eighties, appearing in a myriad of dodgy TV shows until 1998 when he scored one of the lead roles in HBO’s Oz. Of late his career has jumped up a notch after leaving a starring role in snoozy procedural Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, scoring prominent roles in genre fare such as True Blood and this year’s Man of Steel.

Levitt and Meloni join returning cast members Jessica Alba, Jamie Chung, Rosaria Dawson, Mickey Rourke, Clive Owen and Michael Madsen, but expect more announcements soon.

SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR will hit cinemas in October.
