Shocker Teaser in Amazing Spider-Man 2 Viral

In what’s becoming a weekly thing now, the faux Daily Bugle Tumblr account, in conjunction with THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2, has another news story uploaded. This time out, the content, again written by Ned Leeds, seems to be strongly hinting at Shocker.

The ‘article’ reads:

By Ned Leeds, City Bureau

The NYPD are the city’s greatest heroes, but sometimes even heroes are left scratching their heads. For instance, when $200,000 goes missing from the armored vault at G.K. Mason Bank.

Detective Stan Carter of the NYPD Major Crimes Unit was on scene to comment, stating, “There’s still a lot we don’t know, but it looks like some kind of sustained vibration literally shook the door off its hinges and ripped the walls apart in the process.” Security cameras inside the bank were damaged upon the immediate forced entry of the robber, denying police a clear view of the perpetrator or the means of rupturing the vault.

When asked if the NYPD had concerns that the nature of the crime might indicate heightened super-human activity, Carter said, “There’s no evidence to point to that yet. When we catch him, we don’t expect anything more than a common crook with a clever toy.”

To me, that definitely sounds like a nod towards Shocker.

Originally known as Herman Schultz, Shocker is generally seen as a gun-for-hire. Schultz created his own suit that projects concentrated vibrational air blasts. It’s also worth noting that he’s been a member of the Sinister Six at various times. It’s already been confirmed by various actors involved in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 series that there have been talks of the Sinister Six appearing at some point in the future.

The Spidey sequel will see Peter Parker looking to juggle his high school graduation, his affection for Gwen Stacy and his promise to her father that he will stay away from her, and the small matter of a couple of supervillains – namely Electro and Rhino.

Andrew Garfield returns as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Sally Field as Aunt May and Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben. Joining them is Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn, Chris Cooper as Norman Osborn, Jamie Foxx as Electro and Paul Giamatti as Rhino. There’s also an unknown role for Sarah Gadon and Felicity Jones, with Jones confirmed to be playing a villain who is tied to the Green Goblin.

Marc Webb’s THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 is released on 18th April, 2014.
