In news that will surprise no one (but is comforting nonetheless), 20th Century Fox have officially begun work on their inevitable sequel to this summer’s smash hit RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, with the newly announced signing of Mo-Cap maestro Andy Serkis in a seven-figure deal to reprise his role as Caesar.

Speaking earlier this year, director Rupert Wyatt expressed his want to return for the sequel should it perform well at the box office (and having taken $453m on a $93m budget, it did very well indeed) so it’s highly likely he’ll wield the megaphone once more.

No word on either Franco or Frieda Pinto returning as of yet, but really, would anybody care that much if they didn’t?

Expect SOMETHING, SOMETHING OF THE PLANET OF THE APES to hit mid 2013 at the very earliest (though ’14 is a safer bet).
