Producer John Davis (CHRONICLE) is currently enjoying the afterglow of a profitable box office hit and thus has a first look deal with Fox. His first project is likely to be a full length feature based on the science fiction short film ARCHETYPE.

ARCHETYPE was a short directed by effects artist Aaron Sims. Sims has previously worked on WAR HORSE, RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES and THE THING. ARCHETYPE tells the story of an 8 foot tall combat robot ‘RL7’ that malfunctions during a mission and develops memories of a life belonging to another unknown human. The robots creators investigate the problem which leads to RL7 going on the run being chased by other robots.

Sims is attached to direct this as his feature debut. Guy Busick and Ryan Murphy are writing the screenplay. The short film (watch it below) is pretty cool despite being little more than an effects show reel and is reminiscent of DISTRICT 9 and ROBOCOP. Whether or not Sims can create a gripping and intelligent narrative to match his visuals remains to be seen.
