It’s been a full year since we last reported on Scottish filmmaker Lynne Ramsay’s sci-fi take of Herman Melville’s MOBY DICK, but it’s now back in the news as it’s both found a financial backer (at last) and has a title. The relatively new production outfit Scott Pictures have boarded the project, giving Ramsay, who will write and direct, the greenlight. MOBIUS, as it’s now called, will update the classic tale by taking it into deep space, and will switch the whale for an alien. Similarly, the captain will risk the lives of his crew by tirelessly hunting the beast.

When we last heard, Ramsey, who was busy promoting WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN, described it thusly:

“It’s a very psychological piece, mainly taking place in the ship, a bit like DAS BOOT so it’s quite claustrophobic”.

Sounds like a fascinating project to us. Even if it does sound suspiciously like a certain episode of FUTURAMA. We’ll have more on MOBIUS as it develops…
