With Jon Favreau on board to direct Disney’s latest live-action rejig of THE JUNGLE BOOK, now comes word from The Hollywood Reporter that both Scarlett Johansson and Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o are in advanced talks to join the party.

Johansson, who made her MCU bow in Favreau’s IRON MAN 2, is being lined up to voice Kaa, the python who hypnotises animals and then eats them. The character will play the second villain of the film, with the Idris Elba-voiced Shere Khan taking centre-stage on that front.

As for Nyong’o, the 12 YEARS A SLAVE actress is in talks to play Rakcha, the mother wolf who adopts Mowgli. On that subject, very little is currently known on who’s being lined up to play the lead character of Mowgli. With the production beginning to gather some momentum, one would presume that it won’t be too long before we get some further news on this latest telling of Rudyard Kipling’s classic tale.

At present, THE JUNGLE BOOK is scheduled for a 9th October, 2015 release.
