Well that didn’t take long! Hot on the heels of today’s news that screenwriter Hampton Fancher is in negotiations to pen the BLADE RUNNER sequel, comes a small update from Ridley himself. In an interview with The Daily Beast, the director dropped the following:

“Funny enough, I started my first meetings on the Blade Runner sequel last week. We have a very good take on it. And we’ll definitely be featuring a female protagonist.”

Considering Scott penchant for strong female leads – Ripley, G.I. Jane, and presumably, PROMETHEUS’ Elizabeth Shaw – this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. But still, it’s good to have at least something to go on.

We’ll have to bear in mind however that Ridley Scott’s first post-PROMETHEUS project is the considerably less interesting lawyer thriller THE COUNSELOR, meaning we’ve got a loooooong way to go before things get real. Plenty of time to debate minutia like the above!
