Remember last year when it was announced that Dimension and Blumhouse were developing the found-footage AMITYVILLE: THE LOST TAPES? Remember that the end of 2013 saw the title change to simply AMITYVILLE? Well, it now appears that the entire plot and approach of the movie has been rehashed.

As reported by various outlets, the found-footage idea has been dropped completely, although the two companies are looking to kick-start the franchise with a reboot. So much so, the movie has a director. Franck Khalfoun, best known for helming P2 and the surprisingly good Elijah Wood-starring MANIAC reboot, has landed the gig. As well as Khalfoun directing, EXISTENZ and ROAD TO PERDITION’s Jennifer Jason Leigh has been added to the cast, as well as Bella Thorne, who’s usually seen in various Disney Channel productions.

Moving away from the found-footage direction, the story here will see Leigh playing a single mother who moves her three kids to the ominous Amityville house.

With a director, cast and change of plot, AMITYVILLE is currently set for a 2nd January, 2015 release.
