Given the fantastically successful HARRY POTTER franchise, spin-offs were inevitable. JK Rowling couldn’t tear herself away from the Potter-verse, publishing the THE BEEDLE AND THE BARD in 2007, and making her screenwriting debut with the first in a planned trilogy of films. While there are stories that fans would like to see up on the silver screen, from the tales of Mooney, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs to the mischief Harry’s kids and co. would get up to, the film isn’t quite what fans were expecting.

It’s no secret that JK would be penning her first screenplay for the upcoming Potter spin-off, FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM, but now Warner Bros. have made sure that muggles worldwide set aside November 18th 2016.

The story has little connection to the Harry narrative, instead it’s set some 70 years beforehand, and located across the pond. The title is taken from a textbook that Harry and his wizarding pals studied during their seven year stay at Hogwarts. There’s few plot details about, but what is known is that the story will follow a wizard named Newt Scamander who, unsurprisingly, goes on a quest for fantastic beasts and where to find them.

There’s currently no director or actors attached to the project. We’ll have details as they surface.
