We’ve had a STAR WARS-y (definitely a word) couple of weeks, with casting speculation galore including this week’s revelation about open auditions across the UK.

But here’s the big one. The one we’ve all been waiting for.

No, I don’t mean the unveiling my being cast as Han and Leia’s badass son; I of course mean that big ol’ juicy release date!

Get your calendars ready: Disney and LucasFilm will release STAR WARS EPISODE VII on December 18th 2015.

It’s a highly lucrative launch spot – as the likes of THE HOBBIT and AVATAR have found out – and with Cameron and his army of AVATAR sequels delaying their push for world domination until 2016, it could prove just as profitable for the J.J. Abrams helmed sequel.

At the very least it’s avoiding the ‘Summer of 2015’ where every blockbuster and it’s gran is launching in an increasingly apocalyptic sounding assault on cinema.

Anyhow, here’s what the chairman of The Walt Disney Studios, Alan Horn, had to say: “We’re very excited to share the official 2015 release date for Star Wars: Episode VII, where it will not only anchor the popular holiday filmgoing season but also ensure our extraordinary filmmaking team has the time needed to deliver a sensational picture.”

STAR WARS EPISODE VII will begin shooting in Pinewood during Spring 2014. And we can look forward to near endless speculation till then.
