Terry Richards

STARBURST is sad to hear former stuntman Terry Richards died on June 14th, aged 81.

A veteran of over 100 films, his best-known role was that of the swordsman in RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK who attempts to coax Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) into a sword fight, only for a weary Jones to shoot him dead.

He also worked on several Bond films – with four different actors in the role, as well as THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, SUPERMAN II and TOTAL RECALL.

Richards retired in 1999, and spend many years displaying in jousting contests around the world. Speaking with Red Carpet TV in 2012, he commented on the change of the stunt industry, “Now it’s all CGI. After a day’s stunting when I was doing it, you really knew you did a day’s work, you were covered in bruises. I was doing a jousting thing and I broke my wrist, I’ve broken ribs, sternum, cheek bone. Now they’ve got all this body armour that they can wear, it’s a different ball game altogether“.

STARBURST sends his family and friends our deepest sympathy.
