Despite previously being talked up as a trilogy by all involved, plus having plenty of material to pull on, it appears that the KICK-ASS movie series isn’t moving forward any time soon. That’s the word coming from star Aaron Taylor-Johnson, at least.

Whilst promoting GODZILLA to Flicks and the City, the actor was asked about whether KICK-ASS 3 was being planned. He responded, “I’m not contracted to do KICK-ASS 3. I wasn’t contracted to do number two either. I can’t rule it out, but there are no plans for it.”

The first KICK-ASS was a breath of fresh air, taking just shy of $100 million from a $30 budget back in 2010. That film would also go on to do extremely well on home release. As for last year’s KICK-ASS 2, it divided opinion amongst many and that was shown at the box office, taking $60 million for a budget in the same region of the $30 million given to its predecessor. By all accounts, that was a disappointment to the powers that be, as KICK-ASS 2 was projected to take a whole lot more during its cinema run.

Whether Universal Pictures end up returning to the KICK-ASS series at some point down the line remains to be seen. Given how Taylor-Johnson has the Quicksilver gig in the MCU to go alongside huge movies like GODZILLA, he may not be in any particular rush to return as Dave Lizewski. Of course, there’s always the possibility of a Hit-Girl spin-off, but then that has its own problems in terms of battling against the aging of Chloe Grace Moretz.
