Off the back of news that Jigsaw is placing more people in traps, with another Saw being pushed, we have confirmation that a sequel to this year’s high concept horror/thriller The Purge is also in development. The Purge was set in a near future when, for one night a year, all crime is legal, and the film looked at a family trying to survive the night. Though reviews were hardly stellar, the Universal/Platinum Dunes backed film made $87 million worldwide on only a $3 million budget. Sequel ahoy!

Writer/Director of the film James DeMonaco will be returning to helm the sequel and if Bloody Disgusting is to be believed, we could have a shoot date and name. In a story picked up from Production Weekly on Twitter, they discussed a film called The Zone, backed by Universal and from The Purge team of Jason Blum, Michael Bay and writer/director James DeMonaco. The Zone is to shoot mid December, is this the title The Purge sequel will be going by or is this another film in addition to this sequel? It certainly sounds similar to us.

All things considered The Purge wasn’t bad; a neat idea that could have been more but at least Platinum Dunes moved away from remakes. So will you be going purging again or would you rather lock up and stop in? Release date is to be confirmed, as are cast members, for the next dystopian night of survival with doubtless another group of axe-swinging toffs.
