One of the great things about streaming services like Netflix is that you can re-watch things you thought were good a couple of years back but never had an overwhelming desire to purchase. I watched THE STRANGERS again for the first time since 2008 the other night and it remains one hell of an effective movie that deserves more love.

Turns out a sequel has been in development for some time and is now gearing up production for the autumn. There have been delays due to the ownership of the franchise rights being moved around as various companies were bought and sold. Laurent Briet was announced as the director some time ago but it’s unclear if this is still the case. Producer Marc D.Evans has a script that he loves and a director attached who he can’t yet confirm.

One of the wonderful things about THE STRANGERS was the way in which it left you hanging with a sense of mystery; the killers were never given any kind of tragic backstory they were just there. It also gave us likeable victims played by Scott Speedman and Liv Tyler in roles that were more than just mere meat for the grinder. Will the sequel foolishly delve into the masked maniacs’ back stories? I hope not…
