It’s been rumoured for the last month or so, but Sam Rockwell has now confirmed that he has definitely been in talks to star in the upcoming POLTERGEIST remake. Nothing’s signed, sealed, delivered just yet, but things don’t seem to be too far away from an agreement.

When asked by Hitfix about any involvement in the film, the MOON star said, “There may be some truth to that. We’re trying to make it happen. It’s on its way.”

Rockwell was also asked if the film will be a direct re-telling of Tobe Hooper’s 1982 original. He said, “It’s different. The couple is different… I can’t say too much, but it’s a different invention of their relationship.”

A different invention of their relationship? I’m going for transgender lovers. You heard it here first.

If Rockwell does indeed sign on for the film (our bet is he definitely does) then he’ll be playing the father-figure in the Bowen family. Having moved into a nice big family home, the clan find that the house has a few spiritual issues, shown not least by scary supernatural forces abducting their youngest daughter.

Regardless of Rockwell’s involvement, Rosemarie DeWitt is definitely signed on to play the mother of the family, with Sam Raimi on board in a producing capacity (isn’t he with everything, these days?).

Expect to hear more on this as it develops.
