Rob Letterman’s GOOSEMBUMPS movie has already started principal photography, and now comes word on the plot.

The formal word reads:

“In GOOSEBUMPS, upset about moving from a big city to a small town, teenager Zach Cooper (Dylan Minnette) finds a silver lining when he meets the beautiful girl, Hannah (Odeya Rush), living right next door. But every silver lining has a cloud, and Zach’s comes when he learns that Hannah has a mysterious dad who is revealed to be R.L. Stine (Jack Black), the author of the bestselling GOOSEBUMPS series. It turns out that there is a reason why Stine is so strange… he is a prisoner of his own imagination – the monsters that his books made famous are real, and Stine protects his readers by keeping them locked up in their books. When Zach unintentionally unleashes the monsters from their manuscripts and they begin to terrorise the town, it’s suddenly up to Stine, Zach, and Hannah to get all of them back in the books where they belong.”

Sold? Consider us a little on the fence here. If played out like some magical, fantastical movie, it could possibly work. The inclusion of Jack Black, though, just screams in-yer-face antics with “hilarity” ensuing. As well as Black, Minnette and Rush, the movie will also feature Amy Ryan, Jillian Bell, Ryan Lee, and Ken Marino. GOOSEBUMPS is currently set for a 23rd March, 2016 release.

The original GOOSEBUMPS books from R.L. Stine sold over 350 million across the globe, translated into 32 different languages, and making Stine one of the most successful children’s authors in history. This led to a children’s TV series in 1995, which caused a whole generation to fill their pants. All in all, Stine is a legend of his field. To see him played by Jack Black? That’s certainly a unique approach…
