When the motion captured take on THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN was first announced it was agreed that Spielberg and Peter Jackson would swap roles of director and producer for the second movie. Jackson has since moved on to direct THE HOBBIT and produce the documentary WEST OF MEMPHIS. Spielberg evidently has not forgotten the agreement as he has now confirmed to Total Film that once Jackson has finished THE HOBBIT he will segue into directing TINTIN 2 or whatever they choose to call it, for 21 days of shooting in the motion capture suits.

Producer Kathleen Kennedy claimed that the next film would be based on THE CALCULUS AFFAIR but Spielberg isn’t so sure claiming that it will be based on two books rather than one and an outline is already in place. This isn’t unusual for this series so far as THE SECRET OF THE UNICORN was actually based on three books.

Despite bombing in the US, the first film went on to make 300 million worldwide meaning that a sequel would go ahead. The first film is out on DVD and BLU-RAY at the end of February.
